PocketSommelier Privacy Policy

PocketSommelier helps you find wine pairings by sending the meal details you provide to OpenAI through AIProxy and returning recommendations to your device. We keep the footprint small and store your history locally unless you remove the app.
- Meal details you provide: Text descriptions and, if you choose, photos of your dish for analysis.
- Preferences you set: Alcohol policy, allowed colors, sweetness range, flavor leaning, spice/tannin tolerance, exclusions, and budget bands.
- Search history (on device): Your past searches, timestamps, and optional thumbnails are stored locally so you can revisit them.
- Device permissions: Camera and photo library access are requested only when you use those features.
- Diagnostics: Standard crash and performance data from Apple may be collected if you opt in at the system level.
- To analyze your meal description and return pairing recommendations.
- To apply your saved preferences to future recommendations.
- To maintain your on-device history for quick recall.
- To improve reliability and fix issues (via optional Apple diagnostics).
- OpenAI via AIProxy: Meal descriptions, photos, and preference snapshots are sent over HTTPS to OpenAI’s Chat Completions API through AIProxy solely to generate recommendations. OpenAI processes this data under its own terms and retention policies.
- No ads or data brokers: We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No social sharing by default: You choose if you use the share button; nothing is posted automatically.
Data Storage and Retention
- Search history and preferences are stored on your device using SwiftData. Delete the app to remove them.
- Requests sent to OpenAI via AIProxy are not stored by us beyond the transit needed to generate a response.
Your Choices
- Permissions: You can disable camera or photo access in iOS Settings at any time.
- Deletion: Remove the app to clear on-device history and preferences.
Security
- Data in transit to AIProxy/OpenAI is sent over HTTPS.
- We do not maintain user accounts or passwords.
Children
PocketSommelier is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction and is not directed to children. Do not use the app if you are under the legal drinking age where you live.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the “Last updated” date and provide notice in the app or release notes when required.
